PhD student position in 3D Data Processing and Visualization

University of Gävle hereby advertises a position as PhD student in Geospatial Information Science placed at the Department of Computer and Spatial Sciences. The groups research has a tradition in applied geodesy, geographical information systems (GIS), and 3D visualization.

Work tasks

We are now looking for a graduate student to our research Group in Geospatial Information Science at the Department of Computer and Spatial Sciences and Land Management. The position is linked to a recently started and partly EU-funded research project aiming at developing knowledge on how 3D digitalization techniques can stimulate innovation in companies within the region. The PhD student will be mainly involved in research, development and evaluation of novel solutions for 3D data processing, mostly towards 2D/3D visualization. Also, participation in teaching will to limited extend be part of the task. The research is directed towards development of new or optimized algorithms within the aforementioned sub-areas of 3D data management, as well as on validation studies and experiments. Some of the teaching activities will comprise participation in workshops aimed at industrial representatives. The PhD position is a fulltime employment over a period of up to five years. The workplace is at the University campus in Gävle.

Qualifications

For employment as a doctoral student, a master's degree is required in a subject relevant for 3D data processing, or other education that the employer finds equivalent. The position requires good ability to work independently and with others. The applicant must, with regard to the employment role and tasks demonstrate good ability to express themselves in speech and writing in English.

As a postgraduate student, you should also be able to discuss and explain your research for people who are not active within your own subject. In connection with the appointment, the main focus shall be on the degree of ability to successfully pursue PhD level education.

Knowledge and skills relevant to the thesis work are required for the employment, for example in algorithm development, geometric algorithms, positioning techniques, or computer graphics / visualization.
